Pocahontas County
Pocahontas County is named “Nature’s Mountain Playground.” Pocahontas County has the largest concentration of public lands in West Virginia. Over 62% – totaling 349,000 acres – is either state or federal property. It is also one of the least populated counties East of the Mississippi River! It offers some of the absolute best skiing and mountain biking one will find anywhere on the east coast.
Marlinton is the county seat and is a true mountain town. Here you have the river, the creek, and the 80-mile hike/bike trail running thru the middle of town, you have a coffee shop, restaurants, and outfitters all within walking distance.
